A brief History on Flyer and Poster Printing.

Flyers and Posters have been used to help advertise and inform customers for over two hundred years, helping attract the attention of passers by and enticing them to act upon the information presented. The modern posters and flyers as we know them however, date back to around the 1870’s when mass production of Posters was possible. At first posters where textual documents, generally issued by the government to inform citizens to changes in legislation. As the poster and flyer printing techniques developed during the 1800’s, including lithography poster printing and eventually chromolithography flyer printing, cheap mass production of flyers and posters in vibrant colour became possible. From the 1900’s printing flyer design took a hold of the western world, with posters and flyers used commercially throughout England, the United Kingdom, Europe and the world. During the world wars posters where used increasingly by the government to help inform and advertise the war effort. These flyers where cheaply mass produced and spread across the UK to inform the general public on government information. Aside from the more traditional use for flyers and posters being to help in government propaganda, now posters and flyers are generally used to help advertise and inform the consumer on events and products .etc.

Printing Techniques used today.

Around the world it is estimated that some 45 trillion pages are printed annually. From this figure 9% is believed to be from digital printing. Digital printing includes techniques including inkjet printing, laser printing, solid ink printing and heat transfer printing.
